Herr Aquastar RC Seaplane Electric Conversion

Everyone who has one of these Herr Aquastars claims they won't ROW (Rise Off Water), so I thought I'd take some footage of mine. It has a brushless outrunner motor running off an 11.1v LiPo for power.

I just got one and …
I just got one and and the motor is an ama 10. 1) will I have enough power to lift off from the water and 2) The plane doenst have alierons. Just elevator and rudder. Is that the norm for this model?

Correct, the power …
Correct, the power stays constant until the 12 minutes (give or take) is up. Then there is a rapid power drop. You have to land fairly soon, because LiPos can be permanately damaged by discharging them too low.

I've never used a …
I've never used a brushless setup, let alone a LiPo… From what I understand, thats 12 minutes of constant voltage, right? I mean it doesnt gradually drop off like a NiCad, right?

Its good for about …
Its good for about 12 minutes or so on a Thunder Power 1320 11.1v, maybe a little more. This particular model was one I picked up for $10, built…at a swap meet. It was built heavy (the tail has a thick coat of paint- it's not covered), and originally set up for an .049, so I had to convert it. I also added ailerons. The motor is a Welgard brushless.

I built one when …
I built one when the Aquastar first came out. It was powered by a direct drive speed 400 and a 7 cell battery. Performance NEVER came close to what you have. It would NOT rise off water, so I would handlaunch and just land on water.
How long does that LiPo last for you?
Dang man I want to build another Aquastar and go brushless this time.

did you have a …
did you have a nitro engine before the conversion? i am thinking of buying one of these and really would like to know what you think of it, does it have 4ch? (ailerons)? could it fit full size servos with a rx and gas tank? will it row with a wasp .061 engine? that seems super tiny to me for a 2+ lb plane!? let me know thanks
