Lipo University; vid 2
This is video 1 of lipo university where you will learn how to dispose of a lipo, shop for one versus nimh, what the capacity mah c value is, how to charge it, how to discharge it, temps temperature and other important facts like weight gearing brushless bl brushed nitro clutch bell cb pinion spur wheels and ice duratrax charger etc
This will then cause you to run your engine rich. Why rich? More air for the power will leave it running lean. Nitro engines rev high to begin with. This will suck more gas through the engine to compensate for the increased air and thus causing more wear, a higher rev, increased costs in replacement sleeves and pistons, and a very burned out engine.
The other interesting conclusion is the added 15 to 30% (ball park) more HP
select fuel and glow plugs prior to break in. Information that this contains his how to troubleshoot and break in the kit based off of the glow plug, how much oil is good in fuel, and what nitro percent is good for the fuel.
This is a ten video rc nitro break in series. The series is designed on how to guide the novice to experienced racing pro or basher on how to break in a nitro rc properly. I will teach the traxxas, new school, and my own method which is a combination of the other two. I will show the user how to prime a nitro rc engine, start the engine using a bump start box, ex starter, roto start, pull start and tiger drive devices. Then, after break in, I will go over nitro engine tuning theory and then show the tuning actally done. Refer to your …
Refer to your owners manual and the warning on gearing for high KV motors for that specific system.
squirrel, lot's of …
squirrel, lot's of rc18's here with high kv on 3 and even 4 cells, going like mad….I'm still in the dark here???
Please refer to …
Please refer to your manual and the BL mamba video. The techniques shown in the video will show you how to calculate relative speed on your own to decide what is the best system for the application that you choose to run on.
thx squirrel, …
thx squirrel, what's your ideal speed set-up for 1/18 then
Per the video- what …
Per the video- what is the amp draw on your motor and what is the maximum allowable amperage of the ESC?
Yup, and generally …
Yup, and generally a low gearing is fine but I was suspecting your motor to need more than a 25A ESC. Which, I had to dig through your manual to get the amperage and not the wattage. But it goes hand in hand with this video and the mamba video where you have to figure out the speed you want to do and then read into each system. In this case you wanted the fastest system (more than likely) and went off of KV only. Other systems would have been faster.
To each his own. Best of luck to you
So a 2 cell lipo …
So a 2 cell lipo will stop the problem then, according to the manuel.i found the draw of the motor. it's 180W.The color codes refer to pinion T, so the motor pinion is actually playing an inportant role.
Read your owners …
Read your owners manual.
I do not have your system but found your answer on page 2. It is even color coded to show that you are operating in a potential high motor limit area and that you could damage your system.
Any high KV motor, and I do not know why companies recommend it or tell people they can run on high cells, is like rolling the dice. Castle found that out on the mamba test and that is why they tell you not to. Losi knows it but is telling people to be cautious.
Don't know the amp …
Don't know the amp draw, but esc is an xcelorin that came with the motor and can take 25a continuous with 35a peak.
Hi, good …
Hi, good interesting vid. i'm running a 9400kv combo in my mini-t.3s 1450mah(20c) pack and 11t/60t pinion.
After 3to 4 speedruns(4sec. full trottle )the esc starts to flash and goes into protection. esc and motor are warm but not HOT.battery gets only handwarm. What am i doing rong? 11t on the motor to big?
thx
It will cover the …
It will cover the draw of the motors fine. If you are using a stock setup then you will want to watch the power level of the batts and not to under drain them. Novak sells a solution for that.
i have a e-revo 2 …
i have a e-revo 2 550 titan motors evx-2 esc 14.4 volts and have two max amps 6000 mah 7.4 volt does that sound like an ok set-up.
Any 12VDV to 15VDC …
Any 12VDV to 15VDC source. Be it a PC power supply, a RC purchased supply, etc.
i am just wondering …
i am just wondering about how you would charge your lipo, i understand u have to buy a lipo charger but what would you plug the charger into, you cant plug it into the wall, so do u plug it onto a regular car battery??
A new system would …
A new system would be a BL ESC and motor. There are sensored kits that come with both (like the Novak and LRP systems) and then there are the sensorless systems that you have to buy a ESC and then a motor but you get more power.
Best of luck in your selection! =)
Thanks for the info …
Thanks for the info! What would a parts list look like for an entire BL system in say an E-Revo? Forgive my Noobness, Just don't want to break the bank on the wrong components. Thanks so much.
Id get the E-Revo. …
Id get the E-Revo.
I would hold off on the lipos as depending upon the number of cells you want to get the stock electronics may not be able to handle it. Also, this is something that you want to marry the part to the bl system.
I would get the BL system first, and then based on how much you want to go with lipo in terms of cells, ensure that it will handle it and more and then get the lipos.
Hey Squirrel, Great …
Hey Squirrel, Great videos! I have a few Q's for ya. I am new to the RC world and want to get a Monster Truck. I don't plan to race, just bash. Thinking of E-Maxx or E-Revo what do you think? Is the E-Revo worth the extra $? Next Q, I plan to upgrade to Brushless eventually, but for now I am just going to go ahead and get some lipos. Which ones should I get and does Batteries plus carry them of should I buy from Hobby Town? Keep in mind I am a noob, lol. Thanks for any info you have.

For the one that I have, you can balance during charge and also after.
ooh I thought you …
ooh I thought you were suppose to plug the balancer into the battery during charging. Those instructions are horrible. So If I balance my baterry and try to charge will it work or will it like blow up.
ok thanks for the …
ok thanks for the info squirrel
About as much as a …
About as much as a NiMh pack as you will have exposed parts. However, some manufacturers offer a sealed pack that you could seal.
