Power Systems Ebook by Dave Powers:
http://www.rcpowers.com/E-Books.htm
This is a best seller for us. This ebook answers some of the most commonly asked good questions we get. WHAT PROP, MOTOR, BATTERY, ETC DO YOU GET FOR YOUR PLANE???
The secret to this is you build or buy the ENTIRE airplane around a "magic prop." Click on the link above for a "infomercial video" on it.
We have 3 previous test flights of this project here:
http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=RCSuperPowers
Ok, so what I am up to with this project is to "BREAK THROUGH THE HIGH ALPHA BARRIER." What that means is I am trying to get a RC jet to fly at about walking speed with its nose at 70-90 degrees (most all airplanes stall and fall when they hit 30-45 degrees because their wings are no longer getting lift, see.
3 Ways I am doing this. All 3 are needed and work together:
1) I have both my motors able to "Thrust Vector", Google that term if you need to… This gives me control with or without airspeed by just moving the thrust of my motors around.
2) I have the canards (pitch/up and down control) and my ailerons (roll control) flip back into the wind with switches on my controller once the plane exceeds 40 degrees. Without this, these control surfaces would be trying to stall and crash the plane for me, rather than facing back into the wind and giving me control at high angles of attack (40 degrees and above).
3) Gyro stabilization. So once I got the above 2 to work, I then installed a gyro on each axis: 1 for pitch (up and down) 1 for roll, and one for the rudders (yaw). The plane reacts so fast and wiggles around that I need the super fast gyros to make corrections within microseconds, and they do just that. They work perfect, test successful.
Another reason for the gyro stabilization is I have my center of gravity (CG or balance point) so far back that the plane is incredibly unstable! WHY WOULD I DO THIS? It's a trade off: More stability = Less maneuverability. And More maneuverability = less stability. So by having my CG far back, the plane is always wanting to lifts its nose in the air (which is what I want for high alpha). The CG also makes the controls respond MUCH faster (which is also what I want for stunts). The cost is, it's so squirrely and jumpy, that I can barley control it on my own. The human reaction speed is just way too slow to be able to deal with the dozens of micro-corrections that need to be done each second just to get the plane to fly straight! Crazy, huh?
Well anyway, it all works, so how do ya like that. Been working on this idea for about a year. Turns out, all this I figured out on my own is pretty much what the REAL SU-35s and 37s do! Well, at least what I can figure anyway.
The final stage of testing is training the pilot (me) to be able to fly it better and better and really discover its abilities. So I'll fly this plane until it finally falls apart or crashes real good. It's probably got another month of life in it at best.
In the meantime, I'll be starting construction on the FINAL one! I have a list of about 50 minor construction improvements for the new one. The final one will look as good as I can make an RC jet look. I am planing on the blue camo that the Russians use for their Su-35s.

Is it available to use at least one gyro on my RCPowers F-22 for better high alpha?
Dave Powers, thats …
Dave Powers, thats great thats more than great thanks
I'll have a turkey …
I'll have a turkey & avocado on wheat… oh yeah, nice plane sucka!
Nice! That is …
Nice! That is awesome. Besides the gyro stabilization, has the modified airfoil helped you much? I wonder what gryo stabilized flight would be like on a flat wing version. Have you tried running the props in the opposite direction so that the inside tips are moving up? This should be the more efficient direction. Regardless, that is cool. Great video.
Thats awsome!!

Bad dude too …
Bad dude too bad I will have to sell half my fleet to afford one of those babies with three gyros and all that wiring etc. Then one smash up and it will be like repairing a heli, which hovers much better ;))):)))lol.

hey dave, im pretty …
hey dave, im pretty sure you;ve notice but when you slowed it down and landed, you could see the moving surfaces just flopping around. is that suppose to happen.
Me too…
Thanks …
Me too…
Thanks Dave.
You've now cost me a ton of money.
Let's see….
RealFlight G4, Several "disposable" planes.
All the associated charges, batteries and radios. (Servo horns, harnesses etc.)
I can't thank you enough.
Good fun indeed. :O)
RCSP, ever thought …
RCSP, ever thought about making an Osprey, i'd love to see one, with the servos and to do be like a plane and then transform into a helicopter and try to do a landing with it.
I dont think it'd be easy since the angle of the rotors etc, and getting a big 0 to 90 degree servo might be difficult.
holy sh*t at 1:06 …
holy sh*t at 1:06 thats a LOT of wires in there!
