When you run the car in a circle you lose energy from skidding and sliding beacuse the car has no differential. These cars always has a few percent of wheelspin. Building a straight track would be way to expensive.

Centripetal force isn't capable of capable of producing propulsion. It isn't really a "force", it is merely the result of another type of force (one capable of propulsion) being applied.
