To me it sounds like you are a beginner, if you are you SHOULDN'T be starting off with a jet. Yes they are cool, but the engines they run on start at around $1,500 and go way up. The kits cost even more and the radio equipment can cost alot as well. People will put in thousands of dollars into them, and since they have a high speed on wrong move on the stick and there goes your thousands of dollars. check this link out and you'll know what i mean. http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?p=rc+jet+crash&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&b=3&oid=b946e2ad64b12a9c&rurl=www.warrixflyinggroup.co.uk&vdone=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fvideo%3Fp%3Drc%2Bjet%2Bcrash%26toggle%3D1%26cop%3Dmss%26ei%3DUTF-8
Now if you are a beginner i would suggest that you get an rc simulator, now if your in a city like in the midwest where summaer is hot, spring is cool, fall is coller, and winter is friged. Then you should practice on the simulator during the fall and winter seasons. Then when spring comes around you will have a plane ready that you can fly.
Now for a plane, i would suggest getting the Hobbico nexstar-you can probally get it at your local hobby store, if not got to towerhobbies.com they have alot of stuff. during fall and winter when your not on the sim or at work you should build your plane because they are not one night jobs my dad bulit one and it took about 9 months. Oh yea what ever you do DO NOT start off with an electric rc plane they will get to be hard to fly, becuase any wind will crash them. i have crashed about 3-4 electric planes so do not get an electric, start off with a gas trainer just like i mentioned the hobbico nexstar. if you have any more questions just email me.

You d'ont need to be an engineer or pilot BUT you must be well aquainted with the science of flying and you must have some basic piloting skills

Check HobbyTown USA, they have software for training on the computer, then you can move up to a inexpensive trainer plane, and then a full on rc plane.

For a true RC jet plane with a turbine engine . . in addition to a lot of model flying experience, you will need at least a $5,000 budget for used equipment.
Beginners should start with simulator and a cheap ready-to-fly plane.

defintley not, you can buy kits on ebay, and follow the directions, or look up facts on the internet, and build it buying parts seperately. i would suggest no trying to build the wings or the tail yourself, a little imbalance, and !!!BAM!!!
Have Fun With it though
